Flippin’s versatility as an actor / musician is evident with his performances in all four genres of Prokofiev’s famous work for young audiences, “Peter and the Wolf”. In 1992 Flippin was at the podium and conducted the Oklahoma Community Orchestra in a performance of the work, with Galen Stacey, noted Oklahoma newsman as narrator; in 1999 at the Opera in the Ozarks Theater in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, he narrated the part; in 2003 and again in 2004, he acted the part of Grandpa in eight performances for the North Arkansas Symphony’s annual children concerts at the Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas; plus he has played ‘cello in the orchestra on numerous occasions throughout his career.
Flippin’s latest work as an actor was with an appearance as “Blackjack,” the pirate- conductor in a performance of the score to “Pirates of the Caribbean, Dead Man’s Chest” by the North Arkansas Symphony Youth Orchestra in May of 2008.
